Chapter 11: Perfecting the Copper Bones

Xu Yan's spirit surged, murmuring to himself, "Without women in the heart, cultivation is divine?"

"Master, I've gained some insight. Thank you for your teachings!" He bowed respectfully.

"Master, disciple is going to cultivate!"

"Hmm, go ahead."

Li Xuan nodded, his eyes somewhat doubtful. "My foolish disciple, could he really have become indifferent to women, with his mind solely focused on cultivation? It's a tragedy; I shouldn't have joked around!"

Xu Yan arrived at the cultivation area, assumed a horse stance, his gaze firm.

"Master is right, it's through setbacks that one becomes brave!"

"Without women in the heart, cultivation is divine... I understand Master's profound meaning. Women represent distractions, and for a man of my age, women are the biggest distraction!"

"As long as I overcome this major distraction, my mind will be clear, my insights will improve naturally, and my cultivation will surely progress faster!"

With his Qi and blood circulating, he began bone refinement.

Suddenly, a thought flashed in Xu Yan's mind: 'Master said, 'Without women in the heart, cultivation is divine.' Is he reminding me that my current bone-refining technique hasn't really grasped its essence, which explains my slow progress?'

"Thinking again, I must cast aside distractions, maintain clarity of mind, carefully perceive the changes in Qi and blood, and seek the essence of bone refinement... That's Master's true intention!"

At that moment, Xu Yan engaged in a process of self-reflection. The more he pondered, the more he felt that every word and action of his master carried profound meaning.

"Master guides me to cultivate based on individual understanding. He's secluded, and his teachings are unconventional. He emphasizes insight... constantly reminding me to gain more insight!"

With this realization, Xu Yan began to carefully perceive his Qi and blood, as well as the changes in his bones, gradually entering a state of obliviousness both to himself and to the world around him.

"Something's not right... the circulation of Qi and blood is slow, the penetration is insufficient, and the tempering is not strong enough... I should make some adjustments."

"The speed of bone refinement has increased... indeed, Master was reminding me that I haven't mastered the essence of bone refinement!"

"I've gained insight! This is the true method of bone refinement!"

At a certain moment, Xu Yan felt that his Qi and blood were flowing smoothly. The speed of bone refinement had greatly increased, and his Qi and blood had also strengthened as a result.

"Without women in the heart, cultivation is divine. Master was sincere in his words!"

Xu Yan was extremely excited.

"At this rate, in five or six days, I'll be able to refine iron bones!"

"Golden bones should not be a problem. I will surely surpass the ancient legends!"

Immersed in cultivation, Xu Yan forgot about himself, oblivious to the passage of time.

In the evening, the village began to darken.

Li Xuan looked at Xu Yan, who was still cultivating, with a hint of doubt in his eyes. 'How could this kid forget about the time? And he seemed to have been in a horse stance all this time? Did he not take a break midway?'

"It's impossible, right? Even if he's used to standing in a horse stance every day, he shouldn't be able to stand for so long without getting tired."

"Maybe he rested when I wasn't paying attention."

Li Xuan was about to call it a day for Xu Yan and prepare dinner for himself. But then he thought, 'My foolish disciple was rejected, feeling upset. Perhaps he's using cultivation to alleviate his worries. I won't disturb him; I'll make dinner for myself tonight.'

Sighing, Li Xuan went to prepare his dinner.

...

Half a month later.

Since Xu Yan returned, Li Xuan had returned to his leisurely life. Xu Yan took care of everything, leaving Li Xuan with nothing to worry about.

The chickens were getting fatter, and the chicks had grown significantly.

He even raised a few wild rabbits.

Li Xuan sighed with emotion. Although the cultivation was fabricated, Xu Yan had learned many life skills.

For the past half month, Xu Yan had been even more diligent in his cultivation.

Li Xuan admired this dedication, but didn't want to discourage him, so he could only encourage him from time to time.

Unbeknownst to him, Xu Yan had already entered the stage of refining copper bones.

For Xu Yan, these past two weeks of cultivation felt like divine intervention. Each time he comprehended the bone-refining technique, his progress accelerated further.

He pondered deeply on every word of encouragement from Li Xuan, and after some mental reinforcement, he gained further insights!

He adjusted the method of refining Qi and blood once again, and the speed of bone refinement increased once more.

Every time this happened, he couldn't help but feel excited. The image of his master in his heart was no longer that of a mere recluse.

"Master is truly unfathomable!"

"At Master's level, he has transcended traditional teaching methods and is constantly enhancing my insight!"

"He constantly reminds me to comprehend the true essence of cultivation, to comprehend the 'intent' within it!"

"Planting vegetables, cooking, raising chickens, raising rabbits... Although they seem like ordinary chores, they relax my mind after cultivation, allowing me to return to the state of an ordinary person rather than being tense as a martial cultivator."

"No wonder Master seems like an ordinary person; this is what Master meant by returning to simplicity and naturalness..."

"Master's level is truly astonishing!"

Xu Yan sighed, wondering when he would reach his master's level.

"I have refined copper bones now, one step closer to golden bones. In another half month, I should be able to step into golden bone stage."

"According to Master, the transition from copper to golden bones is a huge leap and transformation, not something that can be achieved through refinement alone."

"After refining copper bones, I should go back home and see if I can buy medicinal treasures like Nine-Leafed Spirit Grass!"

Xu Yan made up his mind. After refining copper bones, he would return home to see if he could find medicinal treasures to assist in his cultivation.

Ten days later.

Xu Yan had perfected his copper bones.

At this moment, he felt like he had reached a bottleneck in his cultivation, as if bone refinement had reached its limit.

He knew he had encountered the bottleneck of golden bones. At this stage, he would need to rely on his talent, perseverance, and persistence.

Most importantly, it required insight!

"With medicinal treasures, the probability of breakthrough will be higher."

Xu Yan planned to return home to search for medicinal treasures to aid in his cultivation.

Standing at the door, Li Xuan watched Xu Yan cultivating in the distance, lost in thought.

For some reason, he felt that Xu Yan had changed somewhat.

It seemed like he had gained a bit of... martial aura?

"My foolish disciple, could he have accomplished something?"

"No! Absolutely impossible. This is just something I made up. Even if there were martial arts in this world, my cultivation method was made up. How could he achieve anything?"

"He must have been standing in a horse stance for so long that he looks more stable and powerful now!"

"After standing in a horse stance for so long, it's time for Xu Yan to change his posture. Standing in one position for so long is too monotonous."

Thinking about what kind of new stance to teach Xu Yan, Li Xuan recalled the martial arts videos and drawings he had seen in his past life.

"It doesn't have to be exactly the same. I'll adjust the posture and teach it to my foolish disciple!"

"In any case, it's all made up, and he won't achieve anything. I just want to give him a little faith to persevere and continue to cultivate. The deadline for one year is still far away."

"To be able to use the excuse of no fate between master and disciple to part on good terms is the best outcome."

With these thoughts in mind, Li Xuan waved for Xu Yan to come over.

  1. It kinda makes sense that even a made up discipline would work. Cultivation is about figuring out the natural flow of things and integrating them into oneself, long as somthing allows a person to do that it will work
